We spend a lot of time in our cars. In fact, the average person’s daily commute is between 60–90 minutes round-trip. With this reality in mind, it’s important to know how to keep your car clean and smelling fresh. Here are 6 tips for keeping your vehicle in tip-top shape.

1. Establish a Wash Routine

First, start by establishing a routine for cleaning the exterior of your car. Dirt and grime can have a negative impact on your vehicle’s paint, so it’s important to wash your car at least once every two weeks.

Additionally, salt and bug splats require immediate care as salt can cause negative chemical reactions, and bugs release toxins and acid that can eat away at your car’s exterior. Luckily, your friends at Caliber Car Wash will be there to provide a solution based on your budget and car wash needs.

2. Stock Cleaning Products

Accidental spills happen to every driver, and you may need more than a napkin to clean up some messes! We recommend keeping a pack of multi-purpose wet wipes to clean on the go, and make sure your wipes are safe for leather and other delicate materials that may be in the interior of your car.

If you want full peace of mind that you’re using the right cleaning products, you can come to Caliber for an express car wash and then use our quality multi-purpose and window cleaner at our self-serve detailing station.

3. Replace Air Filter

Your car’s air vents are filtered to ensure cleaner air by preventing debris, dust, sand, and insects from entering. Just like for the AC vents in your house, replacing these filters is important but easy to overlook.

One way to remember to replace your filter is to get it checked every time you get an oil change—most mechanics will check and change a filter for free if you have a replacement on hand.

If you want to replace your filter yourself, there’s good news! Many air filters have easy access behind or underneath the glove compartment, and you can buy a new filter yourself for as little as $15.

Your particular vehicle and how often you travel are some factors that will play into the frequency of your air filters needing to be replaced. Although your air filter doesn’t make your car look dirty from the outside, keeping it clean is crucial for the long-term health of your car.

4. Use A Mini Trash Can

If you live life on the go in your car, you may find yourself scratching your head, wondering, “How did my car get this dirty? How do I keep my car’s interior clean?”

From old receipts to gas station napkins, trash can fill up in our vehicles within the blink of an eye if we aren’t careful! Keeping a mini trash can within arm’s reach can prevent clutter and keep unwanted trash out of sight. Instead of hauling loose papers and straw wrappers from your car on the daily, now you just have to empty your bin when it’s full.

5. Air Fresheners

Air fresheners are essential to keeping your car smelling fresh. Odor can consume the breathable space in your vehicle very quickly, and air fresheners help keep that in check. Caliber offers free air fresheners with every express wash if you’re in search of a consistent supply!

6. Seat Covers & Kick Mats

If you are a parent or pet owner, messes are bound to happen. Waterproof seat covers are a great solution that keeps your car’s interior clean, dry, and free of stains. They also help protect expensive materials such as leather from getting scratched, stained, or damaged by the sun during the summer months.

Kick mats are effective at keeping the floor of your car clean, as they ensure that unwanted debris and dirt aren’t tracked inside your car. Kick mats can be easily vacuumed at Caliber, and many are machine-washable. And if your carpet floor mats are also dirty, don’t forget to try Caliber’s complimentary carpet mat cleaner

FAQs

What are tips for how to keep my car clean?

Keeping a clean car is a surprising challenge for most drivers, but it doesn’t have to be. Each of the recommendations outlined in this blog focus on small steps that can be taken for a big impact over time. Focus on manageable tasks like always carrying clutter out of your car and inside when you get home for the day, and spot-cleaning hard to reach areas like cupholders and floorboards as soon as they get dirty.

How can I keep a white car clean?

Unfortunately, white cars do showcase mud and bugs more prominently than other car colors. The best solution for keeping the exterior of a white car clean is to not go more than two weeks at a time without a car wash. Caliber Car Wash makes this easy with our Limitless Membership—all you have to do is show up and enjoy your top-tier express car wash!

How can I keep a black car clean?

Similar to white cars, black cars also showcase dirt very easily, from pollen to dust. Our recommendation for keeping your black car clean is the same as for white cars—wash frequently!

How can I keep my car clean in the winter?

If you live in an area where snow and ice is common in the winter, mud and salt can quickly wear on your car throughout the course of the season. We recommend keeping cleaning wipes on hand for the interior of your car, and heading to your local car wash any time you notice salt or mud buildup.

Most car owners know all too well how easy it is to go about their days without thinking about how their car looks—until one day, you realize it’s been months since your dirt-covered car was cleaned!

The next step is deciding whether to invest in car cleaners and DIY washing materials or find a local car wash to visit. There are a variety of types of car washes, and this blog breaks down every option for your car so you’ll have all the information you need when it’s time for your next wash.

Hand Wash vs Express Car Washes

The two main types of car washes available are hand wash and express. Many car owners have personal preferences and habits for the type of washes they choose to use, but in general, hand car washes are known for being budget-friendly, yet time-consuming, while express washes are known for being more efficient but coming with a higher price tag.

Now that you know the general pros and cons of these different types of car washes, let’s explore them in more detail:

Hand Car Wash Types

Hand car washes are likely what comes to mind when you think of a “classic” or “old school” car wash—whether this is washing your parents’ cars in the cul-de-sac as a kid or stopping at a local fundraiser, hand washes are still available today in a few different ways.

At-Home Wash

The classic bucket of suds and a big sponge is what comes to mind for many when they think of an at-home wash. This is a great option for families who need a fun activity for their kids on hot summer days, but the benefits don’t extend too far beyond simply a fun pastime.

It can be handy to have some car washing liquid and a microfiber cloth in your garage for quick reference in a pinch, but the truth is that certain detergents and sponges can actually cause more harm than good to the surface of your car.

For example, washing your car’s paint and wheels with the same sponge and not properly rinsing and drying your sponges can cause micro-scratches that eventually wear your paint down over time.

Self-Service Wash

This type of hand wash is more professional and streamlined than the DIY washes discussed above. A self-service car wash still requires you to do your own washing, but this inexpensive option provides professional supplies on-site, which can provide peace of mind that isn’t typically available when you’re washing your car at home.

Express Car Wash Types

While hand car washes can be an inexpensive option, they do come with drawbacks. Let’s explore automatic-express car washes, the most common and popular type of car wash for car owners.

In-Bay Wash

An in-bay wash could be considered the “original” type of express wash—it’s a step up from hand washes but doesn’t require the same level of advanced technology as other express washes. The benefit of an in-bay wash is the average price point and low involvement required from the driver.

Drive-Thru Wash

Arguably, the best type of express car wash, a drive-thru wash, is the type most of us are familiar with. This type of express wash uses a conveyor belt to take the car and driver through a multi-step wash cycle, typically including wax, shine, and dry options at the end. This type of wash is beneficial for its price point, convenience, and full wash-service capabilities.

Touchless Wash

This type of express wash is similar to a drive-thru wash, with the exception of materials used. While drive-thru washes use large brushes and sponges, the hallmark of a touchless wash is that your car gets clean without a single brush or sponge making contact with it! Touchless washes use high-pressure water and advanced chemical cleaning solutions to provide a gentle wash that may be the best type of car wash for a new car or for luxury owners.

Caliber Car Washes

Caliber Car Wash proudly provides state-of-the-art express drive-thru washes to meet a wide range of car cleaning needs. In addition to the perks of an express wash, every Caliber location offers self-service interior detailing stations for a full-car clean.

Custom Express Wash

A great mid-tier option for regular maintenance, enjoy our Custom Wash with a premium tire shine, paint protectant, and a spot-free rinse for a flawless finish.

Classic Express Wash

Our Classic Wash offers the quickest, most budget-friendly clean. Enjoy a basic wash and dry with great results to keep your car sparkling without breaking the bank.

The type of car wash you choose truly comes down to your own priorities for your car and schedule. While every wash discussed in this blog has its pros and cons, we recommend choosing a wash that helps you balance cost and effectiveness all at once.

Caliber Car Wash offers wash options that meet a range of needs, from a simple express wash to our most advanced Graphene Wash solution, so that your car care priorities are always met with convenience and excellence.

As careful as we may try to keep the inside of our car clean, dirt and dust still accumulate. Oil, crumbs, and other substances will stick to the bottom of our shoes, inevitably track dirt inside our car, and end up on our floor mats. Over time, both rubber and cloth mats will retain dirt, causing discoloration and lack of appeal. Don’t worry though, here’s your go-to guide for cleaning dirty mats!

How do I clean carpet floor mats?

  1. Locate the floor mat cleaner at your local Caliber Car Wash. If you cannot find it, be sure to ask an employee! They’re always happy to help.
  2. Remove the floor mat from your car.
  3. Place your carpet floor mat face-down on the silver tray.
  4. Press the “start” button on the machine, and slowly begin to insert your floor mat.
  5. In about 10 seconds, your floor mat will appear in the bottom tray of the machine.
  6. Repeat for all other floor mats!

How do I clean hard or rubber floor mats?

  1. Remove your rubber car mat from the vehicle.
  2. Shake the mat and try to remove as much loose debris as possible.
  3. Vacuum both sides of the floor mat, getting them as clean as possible.
  4. Spray Caliber’s multi-purpose cleaner on your mat.
  5. Grab a microfiber towel from the “clean towel” basket and begin wiping the rubber floor mat.
  6. Use the detailing air to get in between those hard-to-reach areas on the mat.
  7. Reinstall the mat and repeat with the rest of your rubber mats!

How can I clean my cloth floor mats at home?

  1. Remove your cloth floor mats from your car.
  2. Vacuum both sides of the mat.
  3. Experts recommend using a light, soapy cleaning agent mixed with baking soda to remove any grime, stains, or odors. You can also use a steam cleaner, pressure washer, or washing machine based on your vehicle’s type of floor mats.
  4. Vacuum the floor mat again.
  5. Let the mat dry thoroughly.
  6. Reinstall each mat.

How can I clean my rubber mats at home?

  1. Remove the mat.
  2. Shake the mat to remove any additional debris.
  3. Rinse the mat with water.
  4. Apply soap to the mat and scrub off any grime, dirt, or debris.
  5. Rinse off the soap.
  6. Let the mat dry thoroughly.
  7. Reinstall the mat and repeat for all other rubber mats!

If your mat has rips or tears, consider handwashing to prevent more damage. No matter how you choose to clean your mats, be sure to do them frequently. Keeping your car mats clean makes your car feel and smell fresher.

Car wash memberships have been growing in popularity in recent years and for good reason. Not only do they offer convenience and time-saving benefits, but they also provide the chance to keep your vehicle looking its best year-round.

Here’s why car wash memberships are worth the investment:

Unlimited Washes

  • One of the biggest advantages of car wash memberships is that they allow you to wash your car as many times as you want. This is perfect for people who are always on the go and don’t have time to wait in line for a wash. Plus, you can take advantage of the opportunity to keep your car clean and shining, no matter how often you drive.

Convenience

  • Car wash memberships are designed for convenience. You can visit the wash whenever you’d like during operational hours. And if you’re feeling a bit lazy that day, you don’t even have to get out of your vehicle.

Savings

  • Car wash memberships can save you money after your first month! Not only do they provide unlimited washes, but they also offer discounts on additional services like waxing, detailing, and tire shine. This can add up to significant savings over time.

Protection

  • Regular washing helps to protect your car’s paint and keep it looking new. Dirt, grime, and other pollutants can cause damage to your car’s finish, but a car wash membership ensures that your car is always looking its best.

Professional Services

  • Car wash memberships offer professional services, meaning you can trust that your car is being taken care of by experienced professionals. They use high-quality products and the latest technology to ensure your car is clean, shiny, and protected.

Our takeaway: Car wash memberships are worth every penny. If you’re searching for a wash that’ll bring out your vehicle shine, consider becoming a “Limitless Member” at Caliber Car Wash today.

PHENIX CITY, AL – The Columbus area is getting a little cleaner this week with the opening of a new express car wash in Phenix City’s Marketplace development.

Caliber Car Wash, opening on May 16, is the company’s fourth location and its first in Alabama. The business also has plans to open a car wash in Mableton, Georgia, later this month and Columbus, Georgia, this fall.

“Our new location gives Phenix City a premier wash option closer to home,” said spokesperson Mac McCall. “These are unprecedented times, and we’re honored to provide the three things we know best – convenient locations, jobs, and clean cars.”

The Phenix City wash, which employs 14-18 people year-round, is located at 6 Marketplace Way across from the Walmart Supercenter on HWY 280 and offers single and Limitless wash packages. As an express car wash, the company also provides complimentary vacuums, air fresheners, cleaners and detailing air with every wash.

“Our goal is to provide you with all the tools you need to get a Caliber clean,” McCall said. “With our Limitless wash plans our customers get a premier service at a premier value.”

Customers can try the new Phenix City car wash for free between May 16-21, 2020. The hands-free tunnels offer a safe way to get out of the house, and as an “essential business,” the wash is taking extra precautions to follow Centers for Disease (CDC) and local guidance to keep customers and employees safe. Because of this, some of the wash’s free detailing tools and high-touch areas may not be available during the opening.

“We look forward to making the Phenix City community’s lives a little easier by offering quick, quality washes with state-of-the-art technology that leaves customers with more money in their pocket and more time to spend living their lives,” McCall said. “And most of all, we hope everyone leaves with a smile and some next-level shine.”

Pollen has a new adversary this summer with the opening of a new express car wash on the corner of Floyd and Fontaine Road in Mableton, Georgia.

The new wash, opening June 2, will be Caliber Car Wash’s first location in Georgia and fifth location in the southeast. Caliber also has plans to expand into Chamblee and Columbus later this year.

“We’re excited to open our first Cobb County location in Mableton,” said spokesperson Mac McCall. “These are unprecedented times, and we’re honored to provide the three things we know – convenient locations, jobs, and clean cars.”

The Mableton wash, which employs 14-18 people year-round, is located at 5402 Floyd Road SW and offers single and Limitless wash packages. As an express car wash, the company also provides complimentary vacuums, air fresheners, cleaners and detailing air with every wash.

Industry-leading technology added at no additional cost to customers

Caliber Car Wash today announced the launch of its new product, Caliber Ceramic Coating (Triple C), a technology that extends a car’s paint job by making it more resistant to harmful elements.

Ceramic coating is a newer express car wash innovation that, on average, costs an additional $10-30 per wash due to its ability to fill microscopic holes in a vehicle’s paint job to create a protective clear coat layer. Caliber is proud to offer the upgrade at no additional cost to its top “Caliber” package.

“We’re excited to expand our product offering with the addition of Caliber Ceramic Coating,” said Caliber spokesperson Mac McCall who noted that the upgrade is especially meaningful for long-term car care. “When your car gets small scratches or gets stuck under a bird at an inopportune moment, your vehicle will have a new layer of protection before these contaminants have the opportunity to reach your paint. You’ll start to see a clear difference after just a few applications as your car will shine like it just left the dealer’s lot.”

Ceramic technology has recently received national attention for its use in phones and pans. By utilizing the non-metallic material, car washes are able to coat cars with small molecules that create tight covalent bonds forming a hydrophobic shield to make it resistant to natural elements like acid rain, UV rays and bird droppings. It does so by making contaminants bead up and slide off the vehicle’s slick coating.

Caliber’s three-step ceramic process begins at the front of the wash tunnel with a specialty cleaner to ensure no contaminants are sealed in during the wash and to flatten soap bubbles for a better clean and wax adhesion. Cars are then treated to underbody washes, triple foam and other cleaners before receiving step two, which includes a leveling agent to fill in any small paint imperfections. This is where the ceramic coating is applied for protection and extra shine. The last step of the Triple C process includes a drying agent to give the coating its hydrophobic properties, meaning that elements like water will more easily bead up and slip off the coating to help prevent damage.

“Caliber believes in giving customers their best vehicle shine,” McCall said. “That’s one reason why we continue to look at ways to improve our washes – and doing so at no additional cost whenever possible.”

Due to its additional protective attributes, Caliber Ceramic Coating will last longer than just using traditional waxes; however, motorists should still have coatings regularly applied to enhance shine and fill any holes that develop in the coating. That’s one reason why Caliber recommends Limitless wash plans that allow customers to maintain their coating all month long for one low price.

McCall also mentioned that, for a limited time, new customers can take $10 off their first month of Limitless Caliber washes in order to refresh their vehicle’s cleanliness and coating more regularly.

Vehicles at all of Caliber’s locations will have access to Triple C starting December 1, 2020. And, the first 200 new and existing Limitless members to try the new product the following weekend (December 5-6, 2020) will receive a specialty air freshener to celebrate the technology’s launch.
